A Veloster Turbo Rally Edition. For the price of a regular Veloster. It was the car on the showroom floor and no one could even test drive it. I was the first person to drive this car off their tiled salesfloor and I had to take it home. The color and paint makes this thing look like nothing else on the road and it looks certainly better than any sub-20k car should. Already on the first day, I caught several admirers.

Cooool. I didn’t know such a thing existed.

Nice. Please do a review of your experience with it when you get a chance and some time in the seat.

It’s like the seat bolsters bolsters are answering the question “Why so big?”

I love these little cars! You should do a full-fledged review.

I love blue paint, and that is a really nice blue (daylight pics please). I always liked the Veloster - it's not everyone's cup of tea but it's not boring and you won't get it mixed up with other cars.

I think I shall. A lot of enthusiasts knock this car because it isn’t as tossable as a FiST or as powerful as FoST, but in other ways it was the best hot hatch for me. Of course, the regular Veloster Turbo I test drove was underwhelming. I wouldn’t have bought that. But this Rally Edition turns everything good about the car up to 11 and fixes the problems. I test drove them back to back and it was two separate beasts. The B&M Racing’s sport shifter is THE best manual in the segment.
I think if enthusiasts could test drive this car, they would love it. But because only 1,200 are made some select dealers will only have one, and most likely be blocked in inside the showroom.

Great, I just labeled a file “turbo map” instead of topo.
Second the request for daytime pics and extended review! I always thought these looked neat but have only driven a rental spec which was as underwhelming as you would think.

The non-turbo model? I test drove that a long time ago and it was very meh to drive. But it was a great car for style and amenities.

At the normal price I’d say you made a horrible mistake as the Veloster Turbo doesn’t gain that much appreciable power or speed from being turbo’d.
However, for the exact same price as the regular Veloster, and the “rally edition” no less. Good job, quite a good deal you got there.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but the only performance upgrades over the R-spec are lighter wheels, and suspension, right? Everything else is interior and cosmetic upgrades? I understand the interior stuff, but I guess I don’t really get what makes it so much better on the road than the R-spec.
Why would enthusiasts love it if they haven’t gone nuts for the R-spec?
For the price though, not bad. It’s worth it if you talk ‘em down on price!

Awesome, congrats on your purchase. Back when I was car shopping a few years ago I was really set on a Veloster, I liked the unconventional styling a lot. But I test drove a regular one (turbos weren’t out yet) and walked away extremely underwhelmed. This looks promising, though, I can’t wait to see your in depth review.

Thank you! What did you end up buying? After I bought the car, I came across a really nice, unbiased in-depth review on youtube. You can watch it here.

Congrats

Yeah, non turbo. It was a pretty neat car for Enterprise and got quite a bit of attention in rural Nebraska, but pretty boring to drive. I bet yours is a blast!

i drove a turbo when they launched them. Did it for a Car and Driver drive thingy. It drove like a early 2000s GTI. Which in my book is praise.

I got a Chevy Cruze with the 1.4 Turbo and a 6 speed. It’s no where near as fast as a Veloster turbo, but I’ve got it tuned to 180HP so it’s not too bad.

I always liked the look of these. Wasn’t there a concept version that was 300-some HP, mid-engined, and AWD? I’d definitely drive the hell out of THAT.

Glad they’re moving forward with more enthusiast minded models. quick glance at specs says i bet that 201-hp could be bumped another 30 or so with a quick chiptune and make it quite competitive with other hot hatches on the market. Cool purchase. More pics and details as you get them.

Is it a turbo?

Nice. Do you happen to know the difference between the Rally edition and the R-Spec? Both get the “sport suspension” and the B&M shifter, so I can’t tell if there’s other mechanical differences. It might just be the matte blue and the special wheels.

The suspension is apparently even stiffer than the R-spec’s. There is the incredibly nice leather interior. I don’t think this counts as mechanical but both the R-spec and Rally edition has the Torque Vector Control. The same concept as the faux-LSD used in the FiST, braking the inside wheel. The steering has also been tuned for more effort and on-center feel. But as far as mechanicals, I think just tighter suspension and lighter wheels.

At least I’ll never have to answer that question to passengers. :D

The Veloster turbo is kind of a unique beast to begin with, and people who are comparing it to another car may not get it. It’s not for me either for reasons not having to do with how it drives because I’ve never driven it. But I think it’s cool, and I’d love to read about it from someone in the unusual position to go in-depth about it.

It can be tuned for 91 octane at least. That should be good for ~225 HP.

Nice. I was just looking at the regular turbo myself, which I liked, but this has me intrigued. That does look like a great color. More pictures, please.

Good find! The Veloster looks great, and the words ‘rally’ and ‘turbo’ make everything better.

That looks really nice!
I really like the Veloster, too bad that over here they’re only offered with a N/A 1.6L with 115hp and a crappy automatic gearbox.
